As each bug is entered, the following information is captured using the standard database editors provided by FirstBase:

• Bug Number
• Release (Version)
• Priority (Severity)
• Category (documentation, error, etc)
• Status (new, open, resolved, etc)
• Reported By information
• Description (free form text)
• Solutions (free form text)
• Work Around (free form text)
• Assigned To information
• Resolution information

Various pre-defined reports can be generated from the entered data, showing the data grouped by Priority, Category, Status, or Assignee. As a bug flows through the system, the status of the bug is updated. In addition, keyword searches and ad hoc queries are readily available.

Other features of the FirstBase Bug Tracking System include a daemon that parses incoming electronic mail and automatically enters new bugs into the Bug Tracking System. To help clients and others submit bugs in the proper format, the Bug Tracking System also includes a FirstBase look-and-feel editor style tool that emits text suitable for electronic mail.
