NAME

dbpasswd - allow changes to a FirstBase password

SYNOPSIS

dbpasswd [directory]

DESCRIPTION

Dbpasswd allows users to create or change a FirstBase password for any directory where write permissions are allowed. If a password for the database directory already exists, dbpasswd(1) will prompt for the old password.

FirstBase passwords exist to keep unwanted users out of the database editor dbedit(1). Dbpasswd(1) encrypts all passwords before being stored.

FILES

.passwd
- the FirstBase password file.

DIAGNOSTICS

Once in place, UNIX protection of the .passwd file should be invoked by write protecting the file. See chmod(1). This will stop users from deleting the password file and gaining entry to dbedit(1).
