FirstBase Software, Inc. has joined the open source initiative, and is now freely licensing all of FirstBase, including source code, using the Mozilla Public License.

Here are the instructions for installing FirstBase on your system:

1. Download either the gzip or the bzip2 distribution file.
2. Unzip, untar, configure and install FirstBase on most any Unix or Unix like system with simple commands:

   tar fxvz firstbase-9.3.3.tar.gz
   cd firstbase-9.3.3
   ./configure
   make install
   

The FirstBase release contains full documentation, source code, and demonstration applications. Known Unix platforms are: Freebsd, Linux, HP/UX, BSDI, Sunos, Solaris, SCO, IBM.

The current version of FirstBase is 9.3.3.

FirstBase Software actively supports the FirstBase RDBMS via commercial contract services. In addition, we encourage commercial and non-commercial users to report bugs to us and/or send feedback.

Finally, Firstbase Software is also sponsoring a free community email listserv specifically for firstbase tools, support, and usage. The name of this list is fb-maint.

For both subscribing and unsubscribing, you must send email from the account where you want to submit and read fb-maint listserv email.
